Anandwan Gallery:
A man get his medical aid for his hurt foot.
At Anandwan, cured leprosy patients take care of newly infected patients.
This is called "mother's touch." In the early days, there was no choice -
anyone able to help was put to work. Over time, Anandwan doctors realized
that no one can nurse a leprosy patient better than someone who has recently
been through the pain, rejection, and prejudice themselves. More than
nursing wounds, leprosy survivors mentor the patients, and instill in them
the confidence to recover their self-esteem and become productive members of
society.
