Journey Into The Past:
Baba Amte gives aid to a group of people. In 1949 Baba attended the Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine to take a six month course on leprosy. By the time he returned home diamino-diphenyl-sulphone had made leprosy curable.
Soon he began treating leprosy patients in villages around Warora, India. Both Indu and Baba, who had two children at this time, were ostracised for helping "outcasts". Soon more leprosy stricken people would come to Baba for help and in 1949 Maharogi Sewa Samiti was officially founded.
