A woman prepares to be married

A wedding ceremony at Anandwan. Bride dressed in traditional sari and wedding finery.

At Anandwan, traditional Indian customs merge with new ones - when a couple gets married, the community makes a dedication at the Memorial to the Unknown Tree. Married couples adopt elderly leprosy survivors. The houses have been designed so that a room for the older couple is flanked on either side by rooms for the younger members of their joint family.
